Quoted from the General View of the Agriculture of Renfrewshire
"1732 - Tape manufacture." Glasgow was the first place "in Britain where the Incle loom was established;" Mr Alexander Harvie having, in the year 1732, "at a very great risk of his life, brought over one" of the workmen and a model of a loom from Haerlem. This branch of manufacture was subsequently introduced into Manchester and other towns in England.

The Inkle loom is obviously older than generally given credit for.   The type of fabric created on the Inkle loom dates back into the early Egyptian period.  Inkle strips were used in almost every culture through history, as trim strips, belts, and straps.  This type of loom and the fabric it creates had a huge revival in the 1960\'s for guitar straps and clothing trim.

Yes, we do ship out of country. Please contact us for shipping quote before making your purchase, thank you.

Our Mini Inkle Looms, the minis are made from a furniture grade plywood, the mini will do about 5 feet.  These mini inkle looms are made of furniture grade plywood.  Do not let the word plywood discourage you from this loom.  Plywood is an engineered wood and has been made for thousands of years; the earliest known occurrence of plywood was in ancient Egypt around 3500 BC when wooden articles were made from sawn veneers glued together crosswise.

We also offer Hardwood Inkle Looms in 4 standard sizes, and 2 heavy duty sizes.  The Model 6, Model 9, Model 12, Model 18, Model HD 12, and Model HD 21. The Model number corresponds to the approximate footage of finished weaving you are able to do per loom.  See our comparison chart here.

We make our Hardwood Inkle Looms out of various hardwoods from around the world. The majority of our wood is reclaimed, this prevents some of the most beautiful wood from ending up in the dumpster. Each piece is hand rubbed with an oil and paste wax finish, this helps to protect the wood and prolong the life of your loom.

Our Inkle looms are made for doing Inkle strips.  Yes you can do card weaving on the Model 9 or larger.  These looms are not suited for the high tension warps that many weavers use for card weaving. If you are looking for a loom for card / tablet weaving you can do high tension on, please see our card tablet looms.

All of our looms come complete with a shuttle, and a small booklet to help get you started.  Here are a few simple patterns.

We do SCA events, Renaissance Faires, and other events from California to Pennsylvania, if you see us at one of these events feel free to stop by for help or just to chat about weaving.

All of our wood products are marked with our pinecone brand, so that you know you are receiving a Palmer Looms original. These are not a buy / sell product, each piece is handcrafted with care, by my wife and myself. Most of our looms are also available in a left handed style.

Shipping is by Priority Mail or First Class Mail, except for the larger looms, then we use FedEx.
