Inkle Loom Mini

"1732 - Tape manufacture.—" Glasgow was the first place " in Britain where the Incle loom was established; " Mr Alexander Harvie having, in the year 1732, " at a very great risk of his life, brought over one " of the workmen and a model of a loom from " Haerlem." This branch of manufacture was subsequently introduced into Manchester and other towns in England."

The Inkle loom is obviously older than generally given credit for. The type of fabric created on the Inkle loom dates back into the early Egyptian period. Inkle strips were used in almost every culture through history, as trim strips, belts, and straps. This type of loom and the fabric it creates had a huge revival in the 1960's for guitar straps and clothing trim.

These mini inkle looms are made of furniture grade ply-wood. Do not let the word plywood discourage you from this loom. Plywood is an engineered wood and has been made for thousands of years; the earliest known occurrence of plywood was in ancient Egypt around 3500 BC when wooden articles were made from sawn veneers glued together crosswise.

Each piece is hand rubbed with teak oil, this helps to protect the wood and prolong the life of your loom.

We offer five sizes of portable Inkle looms, our Mini Inkle Loom, the minis are made from a furniture grade plywood, the mini will do about 5 feet.
Hardwood Inkle Looms in 4 sizes. The Model 6, Model 9, Model 12, and Model 18. The Model number corresponds to the footage of finished weaving you are able to do per loom.

These looms are not suited for the high tension warps that many weavers use for card weaving. If you are looking for a loom for card / tablet weaving you can do high tension on, please see our card tablet looms.

* The V2 is our second generation mini inkle loom.
So many of our users wanted more control over their tension that we did a small redesign to the V1 (the V1 is no longer being made) to allow better control. This is the most popular of all the small looms that we make.

All of our looms come complete with a shuttle, and a small booklet to help get you started. Here are a few simple patterns.

We do SCA events and Renaissance Faires throughout California and as far out as Pennsylvania, if you see us at one of these events feel free to stop by for help or just to chat about weaving.

All of our wood products are marked with our pinecone brand, so that you know you are receiving a Palmer Looms original. These are not a buy / sell product, each piece is handcrafted with care, by my wife and myself. Our looms are also available in a left handed style.
